Fantastic SUV! Definitely best in class!
by Sidney on Sunday, February 23, 2025
I've had my Mazda CX-50 Premium for almost a year now and it's pretty much perfect. Before this I had a Lexus RX 350 and I honestly like my Mazda better! With a significantly lower MSRP, it's a GREAT value for my money. My CX-50 corners much better (both have AWD) and is much better on gas. My backup camera is more clear as well. I considered (and drove) the turbo version, but really the non-turbo is plenty fast and jumps off the line nicely. Overall I'm genuinely enjoying my CX-50 and (almost) one year later I'm still very happy with my purchase! - 4.0
CX-50 Overall Good CUV
by 2025 Mazda CX50 Review on Saturday, January 03, 2026
I bought a Mazda CX-50 Select. I chose this trim because I did not want a sunroof or a power liftgate due to issues with other brands that had these (Expensive repairs). This vehicle handles better than many I have had over the last 40 years. I love the ground clearance, great AWD system, love having a non-turbo, non-hybrid, naturally aspirated engine with a great transmission that is non-CVT. I also love the analog gauges, buttons for heater/ac and well functioning infotainment center where I can turn some items on and off (no issues in close to a years time). I enjoy having a physical gear selector with manual shift mode...very nice! I am not a fan of the push button gear selectors that most manufacturers are going to, so thank you Mazda for that! There are many great factors about this vehicle but I wish Mazda would have allowed more options in all their packages. Only the least expensive (Select) model comes without a sunroof and power liftgate. It would have been nice to have lumbar seats with this package and a few other options only available in higher trims. The seats seem to be decent quality and may be fine for others but are narrow and give me issues in long distance travels. There are some features I do not like: 1) Electronic parking brake....this is annoying with an e-brake that automatically engages every time you shut off the vehicle. I want an e-brake that I can engage when I need it, not every time automatically. I did find an override for this but very annoying. I would rather have a manual e-brake. 2) I can appreciate the auto-headlight feature that many people like, but please give people the option, not an automatic headlight that cannot be turned off unless you are stopped. I say this because I cannot turn off the headlights while driving into my own or someone's driveway at night and shining lights into the windows, looking at Christmas lights where only need parking lights on while driving slow, also at checkpoints in places that I deal with that say no headlights. The manufacturer says there is no override for this. The light switch should have on/off, parking, headlights and auto headlight selection. Overall a nice vehicle that looks and handles great but also needs more options for turning things on and off as a person wishes. Hope this review helps for those who may be interested in the Mazda CX-50. Thank you! - 5.0
Better than expected.

I purchased a 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Limited in January 2024. I like it. Though the 2.5 is noisy and I am not a fan of CVT Transmissions, though Subaru probably has the best CVT on the market. You forget it is a CVT because there is no lag. I think it better than Toyotas CVT that I have owned in 2021. Upon visiting daughter in Sacramento CA in May 2024. I had reserved a midsized pickup. When I arrived at Budget car rental there was no midsized pickups ready. Desk clerk ask if a Toyota 4runner be ok. I said NO! It will drink gas & California gas is high priced! He said, How about a Mazda CX-5. Sure ok. I get to space he said & noticed the Mazda is a CX-50 with 11,000 miles on it. Likely a 2023. Red in color. 2.5 engine, 6 speed conventional transmission. Right away I noticed the car was very quiet compared to my new Subaru Crosstrek limited. Power is immediate. Driving mountain roads up to Lake Tahoe the car never suffered for power. Returning down the mountain my 37 year old daughter drove. She is accustom to mountain roads and congested Sacramento traffic. The car took the mountain corners very very well, she was easily 10 to 20 miles over the recommended turn speed. Car handled beautifully & the cabin remained quiet. The space behind rear seats seems longer than my Crosstrek. Plenty of storage behind the seats. I would call the interior conservative, yet the seats are extremely comfortable. Much like my Crosstrek, the passengers seat is manual only and cannot be raised. The drivers seat is all power. Visibility is good. I guess what impressed me most is just how quiet this Mazda CX-50 is. How well the transmission shifts seamlessly and how it's power is immediate. I can tell you this, As soon as the 2025 Mazda CX-50's are available I will be trading in my Subaru Crosstrek. Subaru AWD is no doubt the best in the world. The boxer engine is old school even with its upgrades. But the quality of the Mazda Interior I believe is superior to that of Subaru. Certainly Mazda is much quieter and more refined even if conservative. I actually did not have Mazda on my shopping list back in January 2024. Wish I had, because I certainly would have chosen it over the Crosstrek Limited I purchased. True the Subaru Crosstrek is proven and a real value for your dollar, but in my opinion the Mazda has it beat in comfort and quietness. All else being equal, I rather ditch the CVT tranny and stick to Mazda's SkyActive Tranny and engines.
